The cork cufflinks are handcrafted using a recycled wine cork in Honor of Chicago Cubs' Sammy Sosa, who was caught using an illegal cork filled baseball bat. On June 3, 2003, Sosa was ejected from a Chicago Cubs - Tampa Bay Devil Rays game in the first inning when umpires discovered he had been using a corked bat. In baseball, a corked bat is a specially modified baseball bat that has been filled with cork or other lighter, less dense substances to make the bat lighter without losing much power. A lighter bat gives a hitter a quicker swing and may improve the hitter's timing. However, since the bat is lighter, the ball does not necessarily travel farther than with a heavier bat, or if it does, it is usually only by a few feet at most. In Major League Baseball, modifying a bat with foreign substances and using it in play is illegal and subject to ejection and further punishment.

Much time was spent to carefully cut and shape the cork to fit inside the sterling silver plated cufflink blanks.

The cufflinks themselves are plated with sterling silver. They are 18mm wide, about the size of a dime. They are nickel-free and lead-free. They have a smooth, scratch-free, mirror like appearance.
